Brigadier General Paul B. Chauncey, III

Deputy Commanding General, Florida Army National Guard


Brigadier General Paul B. Chauncey, III is the Deputy Commanding General, Florida Army National Guard (FLARNG), Joint Force Headquarters, St. Francis Barracks, St. Augustine, Florida. General Chauncey was called to active service in March 2020 where he is currently serving in an Army Service Component Command operational assignment as the Deputy Commanding General (ARNG), Operations, Joint Force Land Component Command (JFLCC), Headquarters, US Army North (5th Army) in support of the response to the global pandemic, All Hazards Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) and Homeland Defense for the United States and its Territories.

General Chauncey has commanded at every echelon and served in a number of key leadership positions throughout the FLARNG. Prior to his current assignment, he served as the Assistant Adjutant General – Training Installations and Programs, where he was the principal advisor to The Adjutant General on all matters concerning Camp Blanding Joint Training Center, the Department of the Army Emergency Management Training Program, the Florida Youth Challenge Academy, as well as numerous Public Private Partnership programs and initiatives. General Chauncey also concurrently served in a dual-hatted position during this period as the Deputy Commanding General (ARNG), U.S. Army Combined Arms Support Command, a major subordinate command of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, Ft. Lee, Virginia.

General Chauncey’s combat tours include service in Operations Desert Storm, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. In addition to his current operational tour, General Chauncey previously completed tours as: Dual Status Commander for Hurricane Dorian response (2019); Deputy Director, Homeland Defense & Security Issues, Center for Strategic Leadership, United States Army War College (2012); J4 Director, Combined Joint Special Operations Command, Central Detachment (2003); Platoon Leader, 3rd Battalion 20th Special Forces Group Airborne (1991).

General Chauncey graduated from New York Regents College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration; completed Embry Riddle Aeronautical University’s Master of Science degree in Management program of study (ABD); the United States Army War College with a Master of Science degree in Strategic Studies; and Harvard University with a post graduate certificate in Public Leadership.

General Chauncey’s awards include the Combat Action Badge, Legion of Merit (with 1 Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (with 4 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Meritorious Unit Commendation, National Defense Service Medal (with 1 Bronze Service Star), Iraq Campaign Medal (with 1 Bronze Service Star), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal (with 2 Bronze Service Stars), Humanitarian Service Medal (with 2 Bronze Service Stars), Florida Cross, Florida Distinguish Service Medal, Florida Service Medal, Florida Commendation Medal (with 2 Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters), Master Parachutist Badge, Parachute Rigger Badge and Pathfinder Badge, The Distinguished Order of St. Martin, as well as other federal and state awards and decorations.
