Colonel Daniel M. Johnson
Garrison Commander, Camp Blanding Joint Training Center
Colonel Johnson serves as the Commander, Camp Blanding Joint Training Center where he is responsible for managing Florida Army National Guard military functions and program operations for the Military Training Center.
Colonel Johnson began his military career when he enlisted in the Florida Army National Guard as a Single Channel Radio Operator in 1986. He was commissioned through the Florida National Guard Military Academy Officer Candidate School, Class 27, in 1988.
His past assignments include Platoon Leader and Company Executive Officer, 653d Signal Company; Commander, HHC 53d Signal Brigade; Commander, Company B/146th Signal Battalion; and various battalion staff officer positions. From January 2008 to April 2011, he commanded the 146th Expeditionary Signal Battalion.
He served as Battalion Administrative Officer, Active Guard/Reserve (AGR), for both the 417th Signal Battalion and the 146th Signal Battalion. Additionally, he served as the AGR Manager in HRO followed by J6 Division Chief and ultimately the G6, FLARNG.
Colonel Johnson’s service includes mobilization and deployment with the 653d Signal Company (Tropo Light) as a Signal Platoon Leader in support of Operation Desert Storm and as Commander, 146th Expeditionary Signal Battalion in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
His military education includes Signal Officer’s Basic and Advance Courses, Combined Arms Staff Services School, Command and General Staff College and the U.S. Army War College.
Colonel Johnson’s awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal and Florida Distinguished Service Medal.
He graduated from Florida State University in 1991 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and Social Studies Education. In 1998, he earned his Master of Science degree in Educational Administration and Leadership from Florida State University and earned his Master of Strategic Studies degree from the U.S. Army War College in 2013.
Colonel Johnson is a resident of Green Cove Springs, Florida and is married to Dawn Johnson. They have three children: Mackenzie, Madeline, and Grant.
