Garrison Sergeant Major, Camp Blanding Joint Training Center
Command Sergeant Major Virgil Robinson was appointed the Garrison Command Sergeant Major (CSM) of Camp Blanding Joint Training Center in March 2020. Prior to his assignment as Garrison Sergeant Major, Camp Blanding Joint Training Center, Command Sergeant Major Robinson served as the Command Sergeant Major of the 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
Command Sergeant Major Robinson was born in Ocala, FL. During a brief stay in Ocilla, GA he enlisted in the Georgia Army National Guard in 1982 with A Co., 1st BN (Mechanized), 121st Infantry as an Infantryman. In 1985 he transferred to the Florida Army National Guard with E Troop 153rd Cavalry, 53rd Separate Infantry Brigade where he served in positions of rank from Private to First Sergeant. In 2006, he was selected and promoted to Command Sergeant Major (CSM) of the 3rd-124th Infantry Battalion, 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT) which later transformed to 1st Squadron 153rd Cavalry Regiment, 53rd IBCT, as it’s first Command Sergeant Major. He assumed the responsibilities as the CSM for 53rdrd IBCT Special Troops Battalion in July of 2011 until July of 2015, when CSM Robinson was selected as Senior Enlisted Advisor (SEL) of the 53rd IBCT headquartered in Pinellas Park, FL until November 2019. His military education includes US Army Infantry School, US Army Quartermaster School, and all professional military education (pme) through United States Sergeant’s Major Academy. He holds Military Occupational Specialties of 11B Infantryman, 19D Cavalry Scout and 92Y Unit Supply Specialist. Command Sergeant Major Robinson has served in positions of leadership from squad leader to Brigade CSM. His deployments include Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan), Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation New Dawn (Kuwait/Iraq). CSM Robinson has conducted overseas training tours in Panama (2) and Pakistan (Operation Inspired Gambit) and has been activated for numerous State Active Duty missions for the State of Florida supporting security and humanitarian missions during disaster relief efforts.
CSM Robinson’s civilian education includes graduation from Vanguard High School in Ocala, Florida and presently near completion of his bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts from Excelsior College (Albany, NY). His military education includes Airlift Planners Course, Unit Attrition Course, Primary, Basic and Advance Non-Commission Officer Leadership Courses, First Sergeant Course and United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Non-Resident Course (Class 33).His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2nd Award), Meritorious Service Medal (3rd Award), Army Commendation Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (9th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal (3rd Award), Armed Force Service Ribbon (3rd Award), Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/ M Device, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award), Army Service Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Citation, FL Governors Citation, FL Service Ribbon (6th Award) , FL Service Medal, FL Commendation Medal. CSM Robinson is also a member of the U.S. Cavalry and Armor Association and National Infantry Association.
