Colonel Greg Cardenas is the Chief of Staff for the Florida Army National Guard (FLARNG). In this role he is the senior federal official for the FLARNG and serves as principal executive assistant and advisor to the Adjutant General exercising executive management authority in planning, developing, executing and controlling all FLARNG programs.
Before this assignment, he served as the United States Property & Fiscal Officer (USPFO) for Florida (2011-2016) reporting directly to the Chief of the National Guard Bureau with the responsibility of oversight and accounting of all federal funds and property in the possession of the Florida Army and Air National Guard.
Colonel Cardenas has served in many key staff positions with the JFHQ-FL and 53rd Infantry Brigade. He deployed with the 53rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and served on the Coalition Joint Task Force, Phoenix IV staff in Afghanistan.
Colonel Cardenas earned his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from North Central University and his Bachelor in Business Administration degree from Liberty University. He is a graduate of the Command and General Staff College, Combined Arms & Services Staff School, and numerous ARNG and ANG transportation, logistics, and financial management courses. He holds professional certification as a Certified Defense Financial Manager and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. Colonel Cardenas also serves as the current President of the National Guard Association of Florida.
Colonel Cardenas’s military decorations include the Combat Action Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the Florida Distinguished Service Medal, and the Distinguished Order of Saint Martin.
